Poem of the Month

Silent Soldier
“Thou therefore endure hardness, as a good soldier of Jesus Christ.”
2 Timothy 2:3 (KJV)

There’s a war going on everyday
But this soldier often has no words to say
Constantly attacked by different opponents
Has made him lose confidence
So he second guesses his every move
Wishing his alarm would just go off when he pushes snooze
But the fighter inside of him always rises to the occasion
Love, faith & empathy make him ignore self-preservation
He goes on fighting for what he believes in
Sometimes suffering many losses just for one win
He drags himself through waste & feces just to save families
Suppress emotions to compromise with frenemies
He often thinks his training hasn’t prepared him for half of what he’s seen
When did this world get so mean?
But for what he holds dear he bears his cross
Hoping that his actions will at least prevent his kin from being lost
So he marches on
He continues to hum his battle song
Every day he puts on his uniform
Knowing that he must conform
Put away childish dreams
And join his regimes
Using his uniform to hide his scars of fear, doubt, pain & hurt
Wondering when these wounds would feel comfort
Hoping that he doesn’t become bitter
Knowing he doesn’t want to live the life of a quitter
Like a tree stuck in the middle of a wind storm
Bending but never breaking, his heart never gets cold but remains warm
Seeing that his passion is for those that follow him
Believing that because of him they’ll understand in the end
So he overlooks the lack of appreciation on the TV screens
His work may never be mentioned in dramatic scenes
He carries on knowing they wouldn’t bother

Because he’s simply a father
